It is the single hardest thing to do in life: trust another. Let alone trust a person you’ve never met before. We will trust our mental abilities, our emotional and gut feelings. But trust God? That feels like it’s impossible.
We want the here & now. We want to see or feel things in a concrete way. Yet we are told to trust Him.
“Trust the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding.” – Proverbs 3:5
I think that what we don’t understand is this: God is in control. All we can really do is choose to seek Him or choose to follow someone(or something) else. He is still in control. Either we can look for the path He’s laid before us or we can be forced into a path.
Think of a child, “go clean your room” most parents say. If it is not found clean within a reasonable amount of time the parent might come in and say (to our dismay) “pick up your dirty laundry first, now clean out from under the bed, now dust down your shelves” directing us forcefully. Rather than cleaning one’s room in a joyful state with some music going and a happy heart it becomes drudgery.
We don’t understand the path He had laid before us…and we don’t need to. We just need to trust Him that the path He’s laid out is good for us.
Otherwise it is drudgery.
